Question: When buying a home, do I really need an engineer, architect or surveyor?
Answer: There is no legal obligation to have an engineer, architect or building surveyor. However, it would be extremely unwise not do to so. When buying a second-hand home, the seller has no obligation to disclose any physical defects in the property to you. In order to protect yourself, ensuring that there are no defects, we recommend getting the property surveyed by a suitably qualified surveyor before signing the contract.
